Earthpaw "We create our fate every day we live” A lithe young tom cat ran through the trees of ThunderClan his earthy brown fur glinted in the patches of sunlight that glinted through the trees of the oak forest. The light bounced of the leaves scattering greenish light all over the forest floor. It was about mid-day when the tom cat slowed his pace, his breaths came harsh as he filled his lungs with needed air. He coughed a couple times but slowly his breathing became normal, and his chest rose and fell with even breaths. A pleased look came over his face as he sat down, feeling his muscles burn from the exercise. He kept up his training, alone since at the moment their was a shortage of mentors in the clan, and he was lucky to join the others in thier training.
Flicking his tabby tail over his paws he glanced around. Earthpaw sat in the silence of the woods for a moment. Since his evening run was over with, what would he do now? Standing up the tall and lithe tabby stared out a all the paths before him. One to his right that lead to camp and one to his left that went out further into the territory. His head turned towards camp as he longed to take a nap, but as always his clan would come first. Turning he took the left path, each stride was silent incase of wandering prey. His white paw tips touched the earth quietly as he moved along, his tail lowered but just above the floor so not to alert anything. His sea green gaze ran over his surroundings as he paused. Lifting his mussle and parting his lips to taste the air, slowly, drinking it all in.
Closing his eyes he flicked his ears alert increasing his senses ever so slightly. A crackle of a twig caught his attention and slowly he opened his eyes, locking it onto a forest mouse as he nibbled at some seeds below a tree. His body slowly fell into a crouch as the older apprentice pawed his way step by step towards the rather fat creature. His whiskers twitched eagerly as he got closer, his tail curling up behind him as he waited patiently. Not removing his gaze from the mouse he paused lowering his body to the floor. He could feel his hind muscles tighten before he sprang up. His paws stretched out before him before it landed smack onto the mouses back. The prey let out a squeak of terror before trying to get away from the cats paws.
To limit movement Earthpaw dug his claws into its back and quickly dealt the last blow. Feeling as the body went limp in his jaws. Lifting his head he released his claws, taking a step back. He closed his eyes breifly as he mutter a quick thanks to StarClan for the mouses life. Taking a breath he stepped forward grabbing the mouses tail in his jaws and walking towards a safer spot to hide it for later. He hoped his clan would be pleased with him for hunting for the clan by himself and without being put on a hunting potrol. Setting the prey down by his paws he lifted a paw and ran his tongue over it quickly, closing his eyes as he did so.

There was a whisper of laughter in the air and Wingedheart yawned widely, opening her mouth and curling her tongue as if she could taste it and was inviting it in. The wind tasted of rabbit, dirt, and sunshine, like it always did, and she smiled a little, revealing both of her fangs instead of just the one that normally rested on her lip. Everything was going well in Thunderclan. She couldn't see anything that needed doing at the moment, nor could she spot Earthpaw, so she headed out of the camp, firing a quick, "I'll be gone for a little while, hunting. If Barkstar needs me, tell him where I am." At a young apprentice, who quickly bowed his head as she walked out. The clan wouldn't suffer too terribly without her for a few minutes, and, while she had her doubts, Barkstar could operate without her as well. Laughter of her own drifted out on the breeze as she headed down the worn path into the woods.
How she loved this place. Thunderclan was home, her home, and she could never think of anywhere else she'd rather be. This was the place where she had found friends and a family to belong to. Here was her clan mates and leader, all of whom she felt connected to, if not simply loyal to. Thunderclan was her haven and she'd protect it always; there was no doubt about that. Purring a little bit, in very good spirits, Wingedheart picked up the pace, running with near silent speed through the trees, breathing evenly in order to keep from missing any prey she might stumble upon. The clan would always need more fresh-kill, no matter how many warriors and apprentices she put on hunting patrols. She hoped to come across a fat squirrel or too, it had been awhile since she'd indulged in a good chase across the forest. She'd been consumed by her duties as deputy lately, so hunting had been put aside for more urgent matters.
Speaking of duties, she thought, narrowing her eyes as she slowed down a little to shoot a quick glance around and remember where she was. She needed to start back with Earthpaw. Wingedheart frowned, flicking her long tail as she came to a full halt and sat down, running a light tongue over her paw as she thought. The apprentice was yet to have recieved a lesson from her and just because she was deputy didn't mean that she had any excuse for not mentoring him. Annoying with herself, she breathed in again, out of pure habit, and was surprised to smell Earthpaw's scent running across the glands in the top of her mouth. Speak of the devil. The lithe she-cat came to her paws and trotted toward his scent, finding the brown tom with a mouse in his jaws. Impressed in spite of herself, she snuck up behind him, perfectly quiet and put her head right over his shoulder, commenting, "That's a nice catch, Earthpaw. Always nice to see talent every once and awhile." Just to give him a little jump.

Earthpaw "We create our fate every day we live” The tabby tom had finished his quick grooming but had kept he eyes closed for the time being. A small breeze ruffled his brown tabby fur and he smiled. Thankful for the air at this point since his body was still heated from his run. The tom cat stretched out his muscles, arching his back and releasing a yawn before shaking his head. His already shaped face stuck out clearly with his high cheek bones and strong structure. Opening his eyes, his sea green gaze glinted darkly against the light, looking stormy though that was not Earthpaw's personality at all. In one word Earthpaw would be described as determined, and there showed why he was a work-a-holic to his clan. His ears flicked forward to listen to the sounds of the forest and yet he could not hear what was behind him.
A familiar scent entered his glands but before he could identify it completly a head appeared by his own. "That's a nice catch, Earthpaw. Always nice to see talent every once and awhile."
He did not jump but his ears flicked up in alarm, which gave away his surprise. Turning to see Wingedheart, he chuckled getting to his paws slowly. He turned his lithe form towards her, and in truth was almost as talk as she was! My was Earthpaw growing, he was now 10 moons after all. He dipped his head to his mentor a small smile still placed on his handsome features. "Ah, if it isn't Wingedheart, I had almost forgotten I had a mentor." he winked his voice was light and teasing as he swiped his tongue over his chest a few times. Earthpaw was obviously very mature for his age and almost acted like a full grown cat, though that wasn't to far off. He curled his tail in amusement as he slowly let it fall. "Thankyou for the compliment though it can hardly be seen as talent I have just been practicing every day." he mewed gently and sat back down. The sun glinted off his tabby fur as the white near his lips and mussle glinted against it. He looked back down at his prey and rolled it over closer to him with his paw. "How has your duties been going?" he asked politly, his gaze flicked with interest before remembering his purpose for being out here to begin with. His ears flicked with his realisation and he glanced around, thinking about which way would be best to go for more prey. Turning his sea colored optics back at her, he licked his lips before speaking. "I was going to go off and hunt some more, that is, if you don't have anything else planned for me?" his voice was inviting and yet still polite as he waited for her answer, he dipped his head respectfully at the older she-cat. He flexed his muscles eagerly though and they rippled nicely through his semi-long pelt. His tail laid neatly over his white tipped paws as he waited patiently, his body straight and strong almost like a soldier, though he did it mainly out of habit. The fluttering of a near by bird caught his attention as he turned his gaze towards it. His paws itched to move but he turned back to his mentor and waited for her instructions.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/sub]

Curious as to how he reacted to her appearing right over his shoulder, Wingedfeather hoped that she'd get something entertaining. She hadn't played a simple trick like this in quite awhile and it felt nice, getting a play in every couple of moons. Especially since she could play with this apprentice all she wanted, since he was her apprentice. Poor thing. Wingedheart did hope he reacted with a little maturity though, because if he stood there and threw an absolute fit and whined for ten minutes straight, she would curse Starclan, because that would mean more work for her. She'd have to put him in his place and waste time and energy doing so, which didn't suit her plans for the day at all. Now that she had found him, Wingedheart would like to have a nice, long training session with her apprentice, get to know the tom a little, and take him on a quick hunt afterwards to make sure he got a good workout and they brought back some prey.
Not only that, but she would be sure that he was prepared for hunting patrols and the like. Obviously, he wasn't that bad of a hunter, which was promising and would make her life easier, but raw talent was always out-done by hardwork and training. His reaction was less than what she expected, though he did react, ears flattening before he turned around and got up. She raised her eyebrows, letting him speak, and flicking her long tail that looked almost out-of-proportion with the rest of her lithe, sleek body. "Ah, if it isn't Wingedheart, I had almost forgotten I had a mentor." She took his wink, teasing voice, and quick smile as indication that he wasn't insulting her abilities as a mentor and gave him a wink in return, sitting down and wrapping her tail around her haunches as she shot back easily, "And I had almost forgotten I had an apprentice. And that's always good to know, practice makes perfect, or so they say." She made a face. She'd practiced plenty at being a deputy and wasn't sure that she was any closer to being "perfect".
"How has your duties been going?" Wingedheart flicked her tail as she answered, "Intriguing as always. Sometimes I wonder if the clan could function without my steady paw guiding the way. Barkstar says he leads, but that's just what you cats see on the outside. I'm the brains of this operation." Laughter floated out of her maw, since she knew that she had very little to do with the actual running of the clan, but however Earthpaw took her words was fine with her. He could believe her and she get some respect out of this relationship or he wouldn't and they'd have a nice laugh or it. She followed Barkstar's instructions loyally, which was her purpose anyway. His next words made her raise her eyebrows and she purred in response, "Well, if you could spare the time, dear apprentice, I was hoping you'd join me in a training session? We need to refine those skills you've been so diligently working on." She smiled, flicking her long tail. She supposed that they'd only have to brush up on his hunting crouches and moves, and hopefully could move on to the fun stuff, like fighting, but first she'd have to make sure his mouse catch hadn't been a fluke. "We'll hunt afterwards, for some practice." She informed him.

Earthpaw "We create our fate every day we live” Eathpaw looked up at his mentor with calm sea green eyes as he curled his tail over his paws. Whiskers twitching with an eagerness to hear what she would have to say, though he did not express it enywhere else but his eyes. His tabby markings glistened in the mid morning sun as it ran alongy his earthy pelt. "And I had almost forgotten I had an apprentice. And that's always good to know, practice makes perfect, or so they say."
Earthpaw chuckled as she winked back at him, he smiled back at the she-cat. He was glad that his father had given her as a mentor, even though she could get a bit busy at times, but that was admirible. And to be more like he he often kept himself busy by brushing up on his skills when she was doing her duties, he wanted to impress them with his own self teachings. His tail folded out before him like a ribbon as he blinked his gaze in amusement. "Glad you remembered me though, since I couldnt possibly learn everything on my own." he mewed nobly and dipped his well formed head, almost in a kind of bow. "Intriguing as always. Sometimes I wonder if the clan could function without my steady paw guiding the way. Barkstar says he leads, but that's just what you cats see on the outside. I'm the brains of this operation." Earthpaw tilted his head, almost giving into this for a moment. He looked at her intently realising that she was joking a bit. His lips pressed into a smile before he laughed along with her. His tail flicking in delight at the conversations turn of events. Something he also liked about Wingedheart was that she did not treat him as a lowly apprentice but as an equal, and for that she had his respect anyways. "Barkstar does need some back up help ive noticed, though he still has his way of running things in a noble and wise manner." he mewed cooly, letting his muscle relax from all of the laughing and smiling, Lifting a paw he rubbed his cheek to relax it. Ears flicking forward as Wingedheart spoke again. "Well, if you could spare the time, dear apprentice, I was hoping you'd join me in a training session? We need to refine those skills you've been so diligently working on." Earthpaw's whiskers twitched with that eager lust to show her his strengths. Keeping the excitement from showing on his feature he dipped his head. "As you wish, I know I am not perfect but with your guidence im sure I can learn quickly." he mewed, always so modest Earthpaw was. His hunting skills were.... acceptible but they needed some work, his real hidden talent was fighting, he just didn't know it yet. "We'll hunt afterwards, for some practice." she had added afterwards and he nodded. He got to his paws rather quickly, he licked at his shoulder to calm his excitement and in moments his was his tone-like self once again. "Ready when you are." he mewed cooly, his sea gaze relaxed on her face. He slwoly pushed himself to his paws, reaching almost as tall as she was, if off by a smidge. "Glad you remembered me though, since I couldnt possibly learn everything on my own." No duh, Sherlock. She thought, whilst laughing and flicking her tail at him, purring, "So modest!" Then again, it was total truth. He could practice all he wanted, but if that practice he was practicing wasn't perfect, then he'd never improve. With her help and guidance as his mentor, Earthpaw could certainly improve, and she'd make sure of that; it was her personal duty to him. Plus, Wingedheart was finding him less of a pain than she had figured. After all, the cat's father was Barkstar, surely he had inherited a troublesome gene or two. She hadn't known his mother very well, so it must be the maternal genes that were making him such a pleasure to work with so far. He wasn't half as eccentric as his old man, and she made a note to congradulate him on that later on. The idea made her grin with amusement, before pricking her ears to catch the rest of his words.
"Barkstar does need some back up help I've noticed, though he still has his way of running things in a noble and wise manner." She smiled, understanding. Barkstar was certainly a wise cat, if he did have his moments, all of which she was used to, or so she thought. The lithe she-cat informed him that, knowing he'd seen the fact that she was only poking fun at their beloved leader, "He is a wise cat." She said seriously, sounding strange without the teasing tone in her voice. She sounded almost ominous, or at least, authorative, representing the fact that one day she might have to succeed him, as much as the thought revolted her. "Barkstar is a mighty leader, that is defintely true. From him our clan has learned much and has achieved times of peace and prosperity." She smiled. It hadn't been in moons that she'd seen calm days such as these, having been born in a tumultuous time.
"As you wish, I know I am not perfect but with your guidence I'm sure I can learn quickly." Wingedheart was impressed despite herself, and while she didn't say anything, there was approval in her eyes. She'd been worried about having to squash some apprentice's giant ego and having them hate her for weeks before finally realizing that she'd done it for their own good. It seemed like she might not have to have that problem with Earthpaw. All the better then. Letting him speak again, and watching him stand and look her right in the eyes. "Big guy, aren't you?" She commented, flicking her eyes down from his to look him over. The brown apprentice was mostly muscle, which was a good sign, though she had her doubts about his ability to keep up with her. There were few who could match her speed, as it was truly her trump card. Sizing the apprentice up, Wingedheart decided that this was certainly going to be an interesting lesson.
First, however, was hunting. She stayed seated, so that her interest in the subject of teaching him wouldn't show. She had no desire to look like an excited kitten. After all, her dignity had to stay intact, no matter what. The thought made her want to chuckle, as dignity was rarely the first thought on her mind. Flicking her tail at him to make sure he was still paying attention, which he would need to be doing right about now, she started talking. "We'll cover hunting first, because that'll make you the most helpful to Thunderclan. Then, of course, we'll move on to the fun stuff. But first, let's cover the fundamentals." She kept sharp eye contact, so he'd take her seriously despite her casual words. "Since you do seem to have a thing for hunting, let's see it." She nodded at the mouse and then at the ground, getting up to fetch a stick and tossing it on the ground. "Show me how to stalk a mouse and then pounce. That stick represents your prey. When you finish with the mouse crouch, which, I'll remind you, will be hear and feel your pawsteps before they see you. Rabbits are the opposite." She sat down and waited expectantly.

Earthpaw " The Wise ” Earthpaw tilted his sea green gaze back at Wingedheart who annouced that he was modest. He chuckled softly, though knowing that behind that purr she was rolling her eyes at his statement. Yea it was obvious that he could not learn everything on his own but it was to make her feel more needed, and to show that he didnt think that he knew everything. He shifted a bit on his paws to get more comfortible as he waiting for her intructions. His earthy brown tabby pelt glinted in the sunlight but faded as a cloud covered the rest of its rays completly for a moment. He paused and looked up through the trees before back at Wingedheart. The shade did feel nice.
"Barkstar is a mighty leader, that is defintely true. From him our clan has learned much and has achieved times of peace and prosperity."
Earthpaw nodded in agreement, his father was a great leader, and at times he felt that he must live up to the title of 'the leaders son' Which in some ways he felt proud and others he felt burdened, like he was expected to be a certain way. But he always knew that his duty was to himself and he could not change how he was, which seemed to please everyone. Her curled his tail in thought. Gaze flicking to Wingedheart as she moved. "Big guy, aren't you?" he grinned and got a little embarressed though it was true he had grown rather quickly, but then he was older than most of the other apprentices. "I suppose so, its from all the working out." he chuckled looking over himself quickly. Soon she started to walk off a bit and she followed curiously. Watching her as she explained that hunting was the most important to the clan, which was true. They needed to eat to survive and she he listened carefully to her. Stopping as she picked up a stick, tilting his head slightly as she tossed it to the ground a little ways ahead. "Show me how to stalk a mouse and then pounce. That stick represents your prey. When you finish with the mouse crouch, which, I'll remind you, will be hear and feel your pawsteps before they see you. Rabbits are the opposite." Earthpaw's ears flicked up and he nodded. Slowly getting into a hunting crouch, he slowly pawed his way towards the "mouse" ,slowing down his pace slightly to minimize sound. Taking in her last words into deep consideration. They would hear him first, so he had to be extra quiet. His paws lifted slowly and landed softly, he lowered his frame realising that his backside was to lifted and so kept himself lower to the ground. In moments he pouced, catching the stick between his paws, picking up the stick in his mouth he turned to Wingedheart to hear her evaluation.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/sub]
