Thornmask .XxX.A shadow fell upon the ground as dawn sparkled a new tune. The chirping of the birds as they woke. The hungry chirps of the bird's kits. Was that what they were called? Did all creatures have kits, or were they called something different? A good question. An emotionless face appeared in the cool sun light. Pale blue eyes glittering as they traveled around the camp, searching, for what? No one knew. The tom's paws carried him swiftly through the new-leaf morning, the memories of the past seemed to chance him, and each knew turn brought another set of terror. Those pale blue eyes widen, in mock shock, before making their way back to their normal, bored emotionless expression. A tongue flopped out a bit in the front. Oh how life hated him. 'Come on Thornmask! Tell me, who is she!' The memory of her face, so bright and excited, lie burned behind his eyelids, 'She's you.' He remembered his voice sounding slightly happier, as if she was the only thing that brought joy into his life. 'No seriously!' Her chirpy voice, sounding hurt, the echo of that pain. 'I'm not joking.' All those memories taunting him now.
.XxX.Pale blue eyes drifted upwards, towards the pink clouded sky. How the sun rose was a struggle in his mind. Was the sun like a bird? Graceful and able to fly and enjoy the world from a different point of view? Thornmask, the small creamy white tom with the thorn brown masked face thought these questions daily, searching for answers, answers that needed to be found, not answers that would jump for him. Eyes scanning the ground around him, he searching for the traces of mouse, squirrel, maybe even a rat would do. Lips parted, drinking in the scents of the wood land around him, he studied his surrounds again. His slender legs dragging those massive paws, took a step towards the giant pine, staring at it as if, the plant, was an alien, from another planet. Was it? Was this tree just dropped here to grow and grow until nothing was left? Was there genders between trees? Questions. 'Your insane.' His mother's voice tickled his ears. 'But that's why I love you Thornpaw.' Her sweet motherly voice still sending chills down his spin. "If only I had returned on time mother. You'd be alive, and I would be happy for once." He sighed. Emotionless he turned to look into the brushes beyond him.

Looks Like I Gotta Do Everything Myself, Maybe I Could Use Some Help, But Hell, If You Want Something Done Right You Gotta Do It Yourself...
Sun, and way too much of it. Yellowthorn was not a fan of the season going on for so damn long. It was ridiculous. Moons had passed, and the weather stayed consistent. Sunny, hot, miserable... Never had Yellowthorn been so frustrated with the changes in the seasons before. She hated new-leaf, and of course, she hated everything else too. It was in Yellowthorn's nature after all. The overwhelming feeling that she did not belong was stronger then usual today, making her mood just that much more foul.
Unfortunately, Yellowthorn dared not leave. Not while she knew dark times were ahead for her Clanmates. As much as she hated to admit it, she did care deeply for them, in a way they would never come to understand. No, she would not leave, not until she was sure everything was safe. Lately, the deputy of the Clan had been ill, and Yellowthorn had the suspicion that Phantomriddle wasn't telling the truth about the condition of their second in command. How Yellowthorn knew this exactly... she wasn't sure. Perhaps it was because she shared the same prefix as the infamous Yellowfang?
A sigh escaped Yellowthorn's maw as she made her way through her territory, not really focusing on where she was going. Most of the time, Yellowthorn was way too headstrong to be hanging her head, but no one else was here right now, so she allowed herself to think and feel freely... that is until she walked right in front of the conveniently placed Thornmask. With a startled hiss, Yellowthorn bumped into the cat, tripping rather ungracefully over him and falling on her face. She immediately got back up, her pelt burning with embarrassment before yowling, "Watch where you're going lowlife!"

Thornmask .XxX.Now she was a tempered one. Thornmask gave little away, giving Yellowthorn, one of his usual, pain written, soul searching looks. His blue eyes searching hers for an answer that he, himself, didn't understand. "Ouch. Another name to add to my list." His voice was unpleasently bored, his expression only changing the slightlest as his tongue peeked out between his furry lips. A action that happened more on it's own then anything. His expression was calm, his words, his pharsing, all calm. But with in his mind, a storm was raging. 'Stupid she-cat! She should watch were she's going! That low-life, how dare she call me one!' His eyes grew the tinyest bit larger as he lifted a eyebrow in question. "If I may, Yellowthorn, what brings you to these neck of the wood?"
.XxX.He was trouble again, his heart thumbing as he remembered asking a certain Riverclan she-cat that same question, way back when he was younger. His nose wrinkled the slightest, givin' him a quick, unpleasent look, but it was something other then the blank he usually had. "Sneaking off to meet your lover perhapes?" He gave a smirk that would of sent chills down an apprentice's spin. A knowing smirk at that. He would riddle with her mind, give her a little look into the screwed up world of Thornmask, warrior of Shadowclan. His face became blank again. Emotion raging in his mind, heart, body and soul, that even he, himself, could not control. "Or then again," He began, starting to walk, circling the she-cat, eyes haunting her pelt. "You could of come out here to hunt." His voice was anything but serious. A cold, deep, harden tone that even sent shivers down his own spin. Oh how he loved to torture his clan mates with his emotional states.
.XxX."But then again, you'd never tell me, would you?"

Pardon Me While I Burst, Into Flames
"If I may, Yellowthorn, what brings you to these neck of the woods.... Sneaking off to meet your lover perhapes?" He gave a smirk that would of sent chills down an apprentice's spine, but not Yellowthorn. Yes, she would admit that Thornmask's tactics would work on any normal occasion, but not today, not while she was so lost in her own turmoil. She couldn't be bothered with the likes of his games. Then again, if she ever decided to bother with anyone's games, that would be the day pigs flew. Yellowthorn spat in disdain at the notion put before her, her tail swishing in annoyance. "Or then again," He began, starting to walk, circling the she-cat, eyes haunting her pelt. "You could of come out here to hunt."Yellowthorn started to feel a bit unnerved, but she had the best poker face around. So, instead of reacting, she merely chose to sat down, wet her paw, and groom her face calmly. Her tail was still swishing, just to make sure that Thornmask realized that she was not amused. She stayed silent as he continued to circle her, her ears twitching as she grew more and more uncomfortable. This was... ridiculous. What was the point in acting like a mouse being stalked? That would just be embarrassing. "But then again, you'd never tell me, would you?" he spoke up just as Yellowthorn finished cleaning her maw. She stomped her foot down onto the earth, a small dust cloud forming around the spot she'd pounded. A half hiss, half growl escaped the she-cat's maw, and her lip began to curl back, but she controlled herself. "Hey Mr. Hearthrob," she responded, her voice more venomous then a snake's bite, "I'll have you know I didn't come out here to do any of those ridiculous notions. Prey is plentiful back at camp and I have no interest in a mate, let alone one outside my Clan. Before you snap your tongue about what I'm doing, why don't you explain to me what you are doing? Oh, don't tell me, you're sneaking off to find a mate?" A satisfied smirk made its way to Yellowthorn's maw. Oh yes, this was exactly what she needed right now. A good ol' battle of wits, and she knew that Thornmask, though strange, was witty in his own regard. I've Had Enough Of The World, And Its Peoples' Mindless Games [/blockquote]

Thornmask so the time will distory my life, the pain is just what I need, I'll kill those around me now, and live with regret till then. .XxX.Licking his lips in that curd way, his eyes were glued to the forest floor as he thought over possible answers to make the she-cat step down, or better yet, freak out. "But love, why would I choose a mate outside the Shadowclan?"
His eyes held that curious tint that was always held back. He circled her again, this time, using his 'manly' charms to push her farther over the edge. His min screamed for him to stop, to return to normal, but he enjoyed bothin' the she-cat, no matter how many times he wanted it all to end. His nose wrinkled up in slight disguised, of both himself, and the idea. "And love, why would I tell you, if you won't tell me. It hurts." He used his tail to point to his chest this time, eyes emotionless. But no cat could miss the giant dislike on the word love. "But perhaps," His words stung as he came to a stop, his side completely visible to the she-cat's face. His head tilted sideways slightly so both of his piecing blue eyes raced over her fur. "Perhaps had the fish been biting," His voice trailed off, his heart raced as he remembered Brambleflower, the riverclan she-cat who bared his single kit nearly 10 moons ago, and died. .XxX."I may of seen the world a whole knew way, you know." A faint sneer on his lips. 'Come on Thornmask! Lighten up!' Her sweet meow tinkled his ears, bringing a eery, creepy, smile to his face as his paws lead him away from Yellowthorn, the stubborn she-cat. 'Say something Thornmask...' He turned quickly on his heels, remembering how she had been uneasy, it was in the way she had presented herself. A funny way, react calm, many would of been scared off if he had down such a thing. It was, of course, forbidden in his rule books to play games. But then again, it was enjoyable if it was Yellowthorn. "My, I did not know that you loved me, love." His sneer turned grave. "But alas, I must remind you that I do not love." His eyes faulted for a moment, letting the world see his emotions, a mixture of pain, hate, happiness and depression. Before he shook his head. 'Thornmask... can we name her Heatherkit?' His voice entered his mind. "Of course..." He muttered, forgetting his wareabouts and who he was with. His eyes softening just the slightlest before coming hollows of themself again. 'Dearest Thornpaw, ever since your father died, you've became with drawled...' His voice entered his mind. The voice of the caring elder, the one who told him stories. His only true friend in this world of hate and pain. .XxX."Tell me something, Yellowthorn," He dropped the love act, it got boring after a while. His nose wrinkled in his dislike for her. "Why is the sky blue?" His question was indeed weird, but his questions were usually weirder then this. "Perhaps, I will leave you to your misery if you answer that, and another." His riddling words were coming, he could feel them in the back of his throat, ready to jump forward and sing a lovely tune. "Why can't us warriors never see Starclan?" A good question, he didn't suspect Yellowthorn to answer either. But perhaps she would. "I do not believe, in what I can not see," He paused, looking into the she-cat's eyes, a blank face, and yet inbetween the lines there was the truth waiting to surface. "Love is not real either." He sneered at the thought. "Lust is what you feel for a mate, and in which, I find wrong so I plan to never take a mate, unlike you she-cats." His nose flaired. Yes that was all that he and Brambleflower had did, it was just a relationship built on lust. Completely. 'But what about that time we said I loved you...' He could just hear her voice pleading with him, and he growled, inwardly and to Yellowthorn. 'You get caught up in moments, and regret everything that has happened later. Yes.' He gave his bored expression, but his mind was screaming in amusement. .XxX."Do I annoy you, Yellowthorn?"[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote] WORDS Two.ZERO.Zero. I Tear My Heart Open, I Sew Myself Shut. And My Weakness Is, That I Care Too Much...
"But love, why would I choose a mate outside the Shadowclan?"
"Don't kid yourself," Yellowthorn muttered under her breath. She knew this was all part of his game. Her will to play her own games suddenly washed away at his mention of the word love. Yellowthorn, was in many ways, similar to Thornmask, as much as she hated to admit it. Love was not a concept she believed in either, though, for much different reasons... reasons that no one... would ever know but herself.
"And love, why would I tell you, if you won't tell me. It hurts."
"Then you admit that you are indeed, going off to another Clan to woo some poor she-cat? How sad," Yellowthorn spat automatically. "By not saying anything I have the right to assume that you are doing exactly what I accused you of, do I not?" the question was filled with malice, but it was forced malice. Yellowthorn's mind was already lost as she re-experienced the pain of being ignored as a kit. The disdain her parents showed to her, and the love they gave freely to her siblings. The forceful paw of her mentor that she was too afraid to speak badly of. The mate she could have had, but was too afraid of being broken more to do a thing about it....
"I may of seen the world a whole knew way, you know," he finished. Yellowthorn's heart literally tore at that sentence. How many times had she thought that herself in the past before giving up on the concept of anyone becoming her friend, or her mate? Still, Yellowthorn clinged to desperate hopes that were out of her grasp... because, as much as she hated to admit it, she still held the capacity to love.... and speaking of love....
"My, I did not know that you loved me, love." Yellowthorn's eyes snapped to Thornmask's retreating figure at that, her eyes flaring with anger. How dare he! "But alas, I must remind you that I do not love."
Thornmask faltered, his wall collapsing before Yellowthorn in a rare moment that she doubted she would ever see again, but it was enough to let her know that this cat had scars running deeper then she would have ever imagined. So, it was true... they were alike.
"Disgusting," she hissed aloud, more to herself then the tom before her. Was she sympathizing? Yes. Did she like it? No, not in the least. Her gaze stayed as hard and cold as stones in the winter as her tail thumped against the ground like a dogs. Agitation... frustration... abhor... and yet, an overwhelming sense of affinity and rue for the cat before her. Each and every conflicting thought crashed like thunder in Yellowthorn's mind, threatening to release itself through her claws and onto Thornmask's pelt.
"Tell me something, Yellowthorn," he stated, bringing Yellowthorn's mind to a halt. She stared up at him, the expression in her eyes never-changing, "Why is the sky blue?"
Yellowthorn, however, could not have been expecting a question as strange as that. Her icy stare turned into one of surprise and confusion, and she was ready to roll off the clear answer of, "because it is," but Thornmask interrupted her again.
"Perhaps, I will leave you to your misery if you answer that, and another." the she-cat rolled her eyes. Well great, more rediculous questions....
"Why can't us warriors never see Starclan?" Yellowthorn bit her tongue at that question, her fury ebbing away even more. No... why, why would he say that? That question... the question that had filled her mind with doubts from the time she was a kit to the moment she was standing here.
"I do not believe, in what I can not see," he finished, confirming what Yellowthorn had assumed. How dare he... agree with her. A hiss escaped her lips as she averted her gaze from the tom, her tail swishing behind her as her mind once again filled with conflicting thoughts.
"Love is not real either." he went on. "Lust is what you feel for a mate, and in which, I find wrong so I plan to never take a mate, unlike you she-cats."
The first time I don't agree with you, Yellowthorn says. Though it's the one thing that I have every right to agree with you about.... she thought solemnly. Her tail stopped swishing as she became lost in the abyss of her thoughts, and her eyes closed, as if she really was contemplating his questions. Long moments passed in silence, and the quarrels in the she-cat's head got no better, and yet, no worse.
"Do I annoy you, Yellowthorn?"
And it was then that she snapped back to reality. The she-cat got to her four, and let out a low growl at the tom before her, "Don't flatter yourself heartthrob. If you annoyed me you'd have claw marks upside your head. How fortunate for you that you're not my apprentice," she paused, her eyes becoming dead serious. "I don't have all the answers Thornmask, and I would be foolish if I tried to look for them all. If you want my opinion, then I agree with you, there is no StarClan. The only reason I stay within my boarders is that I am hoping to protect something bigger then myself. People like you and I... who have lost the ability to love..." Yellowthorn trailed off, knowing that her sentence didn't hold complete truth to it. For a moment, she was silent, "Actually, I have no reason to explain myself to you."
And with that Yellowthorn turned around, and padded towards the bushes, wondering if Thornmask would attempt to follow or let her go. Part of herself was tempted to stay... if only to put a few nice scars on the tom's pelt....

Forgetting, All The Pain Inside You Learned To Hide So Well...
"Heartthorb, someone that makes another's heart throb with pain, or pleasure. Never seen, nor do I care." Yellowthorn didn't comment, continuing to stalk away without a care in the world. "Running away will never fix it Yellwthorn."
At that Yellowthorn stopped, her claws gripping into the earth as her pelt fluffed out in anger. Heated waves of rage poured off of her as she tilted her head behind her shoulder ever so slightly, her eyes filled with fire. "You are foolish Yellowthorn..."
"Thornmask," she snarled. "You would be wise if you dropped this now. I don't feel like getting my paws dirty with your filthy, low-life blood. Understand? Oh, no, you wouldn't understand, hence, why I decided not to tell you. You want to know the truth? I pity you, you sorry soul. Pity, not sympathize. We are very much the same, yet, I chose to build a new path for myself, not wallow in my own self-hatred. If I did that, what use would I be to anyone?"
"A smart cat would of notice what I did for ten moons... would of smelt it too." His smirk grew dangerously madman like. He let out a throaty laugh. One of pure insanity. He was losing his sanity, his hold on the world. "And for that, you should explain yourself Yellowthorn."
Yellowthorn stayed silent for a few moments, her glare never faltering, never losing its energy. The stab he took at her was low, and as much as she hated to admit it, hurt. But what else was new? Everything hurt. Everyone hurt her countless times without even realizing it, because she was always the scapegoat, for some god-forsaken reason.
"I'm not the moron everyone perceives me to be Thornmask," she finally responded. "I'm a Senior Warrior, and far more experienced then most cats in this Clan. You were different, once, during that time when you were with...that she-cat. That was the real you. This is a facade that you are going to lose yourself to. I've already lost myself to mine, and I wouldn't even wish that on my worst enemy let along a Clanmate. Do you know what it's like, to not know yourself anymore?"
"She-cats and there way of hatred."
"I do not hate," Yellowthorn spat. "Only immensely dislike. It takes too much energy and time to hate someone."

Thornmask there is a demon in me, it screams every time i try to run, it strangles me in my sleep, so will you give me the hope and light, cause these changes are killing me. We are very much the same, yet, I chose to build a new path for myself, not wallow in my own self-hatred. If I did that, what use would I be to anyone?"
.XxX.Now that hurt. His eyes closed for a moment so he could calm himself. His whisker's twitched as he stared at her, his nose wrinkled in slight dislike as he began to feel that hatred for this she-cat again. 'Why am I a filthy, low-life cat? Did I say something wrong?' His eyes rounded as she said she pitied him. He need no pity from anyone, he held enough of his own that he dare not say anything about it. Sure he did wallow in self hate. After blaming himself from everything that happened with his mother and father and Brambleflower. Maybe he even just wanted to snatch up his kit and run. A eye brow rose and he smirked softly. His question would wait.
.XxX."I'm not the moron everyone perceives me to be Thornmask," she finally responded. Do you know what it's like, to not know yourself anymore?"
.XxX."I never perceive anyone to be a moron, just not smart enough to understand the way some of us see things," He began, his tongue clicked. His eyes tired and his soul seemingly pouring from them. "That 'she-cat' was better off dead then with me, if your so sure I was different then, maybe you should go find her and speak with her. I'm a cold hearted bastard and I'm not afaird to admit it. If you were dying right here, right now, I let you die, just cause I don't feel the need to save some one like you." His nose flaired. "Heatherpaw should of died to eh. I should of left her at the border, but no! I felt like I might as well do something nice to save someone... what good did it do? Nothing." His nose flaired and he stomped his foot. He hated this life. He needed a better one. Maybe when he died he would be recreated and put in another cat's body. "I do know... what it's like to not know your self anymore, but Yellowthorn," His eyes seemed to harder, like they usually did when he was pissed, or sadden.
.XxX."You do. You just don't notice it yet."
He frowned softly, his eyes hooded and his ears flat in a sorta friendly gesture. "And on the plus side! You'll get another tom in your life, I bet he's right under your nose." And to just piss her off even more then she already was, he tapped her nose. Yes he had his fluffy moments, those, completely rare. No one saw theses. He thought he at least piss her off more, or try to cheer her up. Either would do. He hated seeing cats upset with themselves the way he was with himself. Those Who Are Looking Backwards Chose To Live As Statues
"And on the plus side! You'll get another tom in your life, I bet he's right under your nose." And then, Thornmask did the one thing that Yellowthorn would never be able to get out of her head, he tapped her on the nose. A chill rolled down her spine, her fur fluffing up and her tail going erect behind her. A low growl escaped her maw, and before she knew it, a paw came rushing up from beneath her: her own paw, claws unsheathed, slashing at Thornmask from a combination of shock, stress, and fury. She could feel at least a patch of fur tear off at her claws, but she dared not look to see if she made him bleed.
With downcast eyes, Yellowthorn took a few steps back, distancing herself from the tom, "Don't touch me," she said. It was supposed to be menacing, but her voice cracked. It was shocking, how much one simple action could break a wall down. And Yellowthorn was losing it.... badly, "I'm not worth it. I mean, look at me, I can't even control my stupid anger, let alone keep my feelings in check for long enough that a tom would ever want me. Really Thornmask, I'm not a fool. I know nobody likes me. Besides, even if they did, the tom I wanted all those moons ago is...." she trailed off, unwilling to finish her sentence. It was stupid, how she continued to dwell on past feelings, but she couldn't shake it.
"A medicine cat," she finally sighed. Of all the cats to open up to, why Thornmask? And why in a situation like this? Yellowthorn mentally clawed at her pelt, scolding herself for letting so much slip. "How sad for me, but isn't that dandy, I already had the rest of my life ruined by circumstance.... this one shouldn't have been a surprise. Heh.... This Clan doesn't care. No one ever did. The ironic part is that I care too much about it and I don't even get a second glance.... I don't know what I was thinking, trying to become deputy; thinking I might finally get the respect and adoration I wanted even from the days I was a kit."
And after a few moments, Yellowthorn looked up, wondering if her claws had left a mark or not on the face of the tom before her.
